Guido Alexander Sandino Jr. was born on February 27, 1930. He was a lifelong Merced resident, graduating from Merced High School in 1947, where he was an all-league basketball player. He briefly attended Modesto Junior College before starting work with Pacific Telephone, a career that lasted over 33 years and ended in the position of senior engineer. Guido served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. It was there where he met his wife, Joanne. They were married in Nagoya, Japan. Guido Alexander Sandino Jr. was born on February 27, 1930. He was a lifelong Merced resident, graduating from Merced High School in 1947, where he was an all-league basketball player. He briefly attended Modesto Junior College before starting work with Pacific Telephone, a career that lasted over 33 years and ended in the position of senior engineer. Guido served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. It was there where he met his wife, Joanne. They were married in Nagoya, Japan. As an active member of the community, Guido was a member of the Italo American Lodge, service as president in 1970. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion, as well as, The Knights of Columbus. Guido was an avid sportsman, over the years playing softball, bowling in the Pacific Bell League, fishing, hunting, boating, water skiing, and watching his favorite San Francisco professional teams. He was an excellent cook, most noted for the mushrooms he put up for friends, friends that would bring him mushrooms in the winter knowing Guido would pickle them.

He was preceded in death by his father Guido Sandino Sr., and his mother, Carolla Sandino, and his brother Augusto Sandino. Guido was a great father and husband, being survived by his wife, Joanne, and sons Perry and Gary. Guido relished in his time with his grandchildren: Nicole, Peter, Nick, Jake and Chris. Guido is also survived by his brother, Julio Sandino. In his later years, Guido spent time with his companion, Alice Brewer and her family, including son Jimmy and daughter Debra. He took on the role of grandfather (5) and great grandfather (6).
